Wayne Rooney reacts as Ghanaian politician discusses Harry Maguire in parliament

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has swiftly reacted to the mockery directed at Harry Maguire in Ghana’s parliament by a lawmaker.

Maguire, 29, has recently been the target of several taunts and harsh insults and he was at the receiving end once again when a Ghanaian MP, Isaac Adongo likened his lacklustre performance at Manchester United to the performance of Ghana’s Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

However, Rooney believes the player who is presenting the Three Lions at the World Cup is doing well with his career and does not deserve that form of disrespect.

The former England striker said in his column for The Times, “On social media this week, I saw someone in the Ghanaian parliament making fun of Harry Maguire.

It was crazy because Harry has been outstanding at this World Cup.

“I predicted he would do well – because he always does well for England and never lets Gareth Southgate down.

He is simply a very good defender with a strong mentality.”
Isaac Adongo is a Ghanaian politician and member of the 8th Ghanaian Parliament representing the Bolgatanga Central Constituency in the Upper East Region on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress. He was first elected in 2016 and he was re-elected in 2020.
